Da Gist is a pilot TV series made for young people by young people in collaboration with Bradóg Regional Youth Services (Co-founder of Reel Youth Film Festival and active member of European youth organisation, Empower Media Network). Other partners in this project were DC TV, Broadcasting Commission of Ireland and LYCS Community Training Centre. The objectives of this programme are as follows: Facilitate young people to create their own Magazine TV series of programmes TV programme that showcases their lifestyle, culture, creativity, thoughts and opinions Production to deliver a pilot series of 4 x 30 minute programmes broadcast over a month Prior to Production deliver a Learning programme providing skills development One of the highlights of ‘Da Gist’ promo episode is an interview with Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, who was tracked down by teenage reporter Sean Doyle (aged 16) and quizzed on how often he wears a cycling helmet and whether or not he has a TV licence. Broadcast on Dublin Community Television (DCTV) NTL Digital Channel 802, ‘Da Gist’ premiered on Friday 24th October at 6pm, with new episodes being broadcasted at the same time for the following three Fridays. |
Phase one of the project commenced in November 2007 and consisted of evening classes combined with Saturday workshops and a residential weekend in Galway (including a TV studio production workshop at TG4). Fetac level 3 accreditation in video expression was offered to the participants. The production phase of the project started in March 2008 and continued until September 2008. The crew of approx. 10 x young people formed an editorial panel, attended weekly production meetings, researched & crewed reports, scripted & presented over the summer months. The programme was produced with guidance from professionals mentors and the editing, grading & sound post was completed on Final Cut Studio software.
