Launch of Dare to be Digital 2010 Competition

Digital video games development competition

Dare to be Digital is the UK's premier video games development competition for students at Universities and Colleges of Art and also open to students in Ireland, Scandinavia, India and China. Teams of 5 students, usually a mix of artists, programmers and audio, assemble in a development hothouse at the University of Dundee, Scotland for 10 weeks (Monday 7th June to Tuesday 17th August 2010) to develop a prototype video game.

Over the 10 weeks teams will receive daily support and weekly training sessions from industry specialists. Dare to be Digital is an excellent opportunity for science students to come together with artistic students to broaden experiences through working in cross-discipline environments. The game prototypes will be displayed at Dare ProtoPlay, a special talent showcasing event in Edinburgh which runs alongside the Edinburgh Interactive Festival in August. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams at a special awards ceremony at this time also.  Many past contestants have been hired by games companies on completion of the Dare to be Digital competition.

As the preferred location for the gaming sector in Ireland, The Digital Hub is delighted to support the Dare to be Digital competition, in which Irish students have been participating in since 2004.
