  What Is It?

Dare to be Digital is a competition for third level students who are interested in gaming and game design. It gives them the opportunity to see how the industry works and get an insight into the making of games, plus the opportunity to work with and learn from people who already work in the industry.  Each year two Irish finalists are selected to represent their country from the many entries received from colleges and universities all over Ireland.

  What do you do?

The winning teams work on their game prototype during the summer holidays. Students are given access to a fully equipped computer lab 24/7 for over ten weeks. They are given mentor support in order to help with the making of their game. At the end of the 10 weeks the they gather at Dare Protoplay to represent Ireland and showcase their games.

  Congratulations To...

'Bubblegum Games' and 'CottonBall Physics' who represented Ireland in 2009.

This year 'Nevermind Games' are representing Ireland and will be developing their game prototype over the course of summer 2010. Team members of Nevermind Games are Alan Boyce, Mark Lambe, James Sadlier, Kevin Ryan and Kevin McGarry from Carlow IT and Ballfermot College, who are creating a fantastic strategy game WiiKick. WiiKick is a multiplayer-football-party-game which involves a player strapping a WiiMote to their foot in order to shoot penalties, free-kicks and play mini-games. More information about the team can be found on their website http://nevermindgames.com/ or on the Dare To Be Digital website.
