What do you do?

Digital Hub FM aims to deliver training in Radio production using digital tools integrated with training and opportunities for Radio broadcasting. The target groups of the project are participants, both adults and young people, from the local communities adjacent to The Digital Hub and more broadly across Inner City Dublin.

Since 2005 over 100 learner participants have taken part in media training and broadcasting. A number of courses offering FETAC Certification have been delivered including Evening Courses and Back-To-Education-Initiative Day Courses. Other courses have been tailored for specific groups of learners, such as for the NCBI's (National Council for the Blind of Ireland) Iona Adult Centre for Vision Impaired People in Glasnevin.

Each of the different courses delivered have specific learning outcomes. Depending on the course these include the Learners being able to demonstrate:

  • Techniques for conducting radio interviews
  • Competencies in operating location and studio recording equipment
  • Creativity in the development of radio programme ideas
  • On air presentation skills
  • Ability to digitally edit audio productions
  • Working collaboratively in a number of radio production roles
  • Proficiency in live radio broadcasting

Participants have produced a wide range of types of programmes and broadcast schedules are an exciting mix of music, entertainment, discussion, local history, sports and youth programmes. The full current schedule is available on www.digitalhubfm.com.

In excess of 200 radio studio guests have participated with interviews spanning a range of topics including local issues, special interest groups, local politics, culture, arts and music.

Do you enjoy it?

"after the first one I loved it, I loved going on the radio, because everyone saying 'your great, I heard ya in a taxi' and things like that... it opened up that I was able to do other things that I wouldn't have done before... I did more courses and didn't feel like, you wont be able to do it. After doing the radio, I felt as if, I can do that, I can do anything." - Josie Sheehan

"ever since then it hasn't dampened my interest in radio, it just made it even
bigger and I've being trying to get involved with as much radio stuff as possible. I've being messing at home on my computer trying to put ads together, just keeping the knowledge there since the course has finished, keeping my brain fresh, looking over my notes. Its good experience." - Gerard McCauley
