iTrek is a collaboration of SWICN Computer Clubhouse and elevate learning atThe Digital Hub. In this week long educational programme, young people explore environmental and cultural issues with the aid of digital technology. During the programme, young people were immersed in a role-playing games as Eco Heroes, where they became participants in a treasure hunt which brought them around the city, up to the zoo and beyond to track down digital clues. |
The young Eco Heroes were equipped with 3G mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras and other high tech equipment to help them in their adventure. The Eco Heroes’ days consisted of tech training in the morning and this was then applied to their missions in the afternoon. At the end of each busy day, they reported back their findings to Commander Jack, via a Big Brother style video diary room. iTrek 2008 also had a cross-border dimension, with the Eco Heroes communicating with colleagues in Belfast. On the final day, both groups of Eco Heroes joined forces for the Ultimate Challenge: to reclaim a beach in Co. Louth. |

Here's some comments from 2007 participants "I like that we were using all the technology for all different things...the fact that you can have a laugh and do something good as well....its not like school...you can use a lot more advanced technology and its not hard, so you can do better stuff that you thought you couldn't have."- Louise Nolan |
