The William Burgess Bursary

The William Burgess Bursary has been set up in memory of William Burgess, former Chairperson of Digital Hub Development Agency. It is funded by the family of William Burgess; Digital Hub Development Agency; FINEOS Corporation Limited; IONA Technologies; Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC); IBM and The Ulster Bank Group.

The aim of the bursary is to provide financial support to talented and highly motivated students, for whom the cost of continuing studies might provide a barrier to taking up an under graduate or post graduate level course in a digital media related area. The fund is administered by the Digital Hub Development Agency on behalf of itself and the patron companies with which William Burgess had a close association.

The bursary will target three areas:
  • those participating in diploma/certificate programmes
  • those entering degree programmes
  • those embarking on graduate studies

The bursaries will be focused at those from disadvantaged areas who are studying digital media, particularly in the areas of computer games, wireless, e-learning and animation. Our key goal is to provide a range of supports to as wide a group of students as possible over a three year period by combining our bursary with existing college/research programmes.

We have agreed to partner with the following organisations/universities in the dissemination of the bursary:

  • Dublin Inner City Partnership on the diploma/certificate programmes
  • TCD, DIT, DCU on their Access Programmes degree programmes
  • IRCSET on the masters programme

The bursary fund has €100k committed over a three year period.
