Our World Our Issues is a collaborative youth project involving forty teenagers, aged 13 to 14, in Dublin , Armagh and Gateshead, UK. The aim of the project is to provide young people with a forum to explore the issues that affect them in their lives and to publish their views through the medium of computer game creation. The Project is sponsored by the EU.
In the preparation phase of the project the three groups came together and started to look at the issues that affect them in their daily lives. In tandem with this research and exploration stage young people in all three locations began to learn how to create their own computer games. They learned the technical skills required to create a game. In the implementation phase a 4 day workshop took place in Dublin in July 2010 where young people from Gateshead, Armagh and The Digital Hub met and shared experiences and stories about their lives in their communities and to discuss the issues that interest them. The week long exchange had two elements – one a focus on learning about diversity and the issues facing all three youth groups and secondly expressing their stories in digital form through computer games. On returning to their schools and communities in the autumn each group created a game using the skills developed during the summer workshop.
